A drug suspect was shot by police after allegedly resisting arrest during a drug buy-bust operation conducted by the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) in Tagbilaran City on Thursday night.
According to the BPPO Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB), suspect Michael Villareal, 28, attempted to take the gun of a police poseur-buyer after a staged drug transaction.
Villareal, resident of Brgy. Ubujan, Tagbilaran City was reportedly subjected to the sting operation at around 7:20 p.m. after he was spotted by police selling illegal drugs.
However, the suspect allegedly noticed that he sold shabu to an undercover policeman prompting him to go for the cop’s gun.
This resulted in a physical tussle between the two but the police officer was eventually able to regain control of the pistol and shoot the suspect in the left knee.
After Vilalreal was subdued, police found 21 packets of suspected shabu from the suspect.
According to police, the seized drugs weighed around four grams and had an estimated street value of P42,000.
Based on police data, Villareal previously surrendered under Oplan Tokhang and had pledged to end involvement in illegal drug activities.
Villareal however continued to sell drugs after surrendering and has been monitored to having continued engaging in illegal drug activities.
He is now in police custody and being treated at a hospital in Tagbilaran City. (Weli Maestrado)
