A Bohol Provincial Board (PB) Member has proposed an inquiry into the alleged illegal logging in the town of Ubay, particularly in Barangay San Pascual.
In his privilege speech on Friday last week, Board Member Elpidio Jala said he was prompted to raise the issue before the PB after reports on the illegal activity conducted in the said village surfaced.
Jala called for the investigation noting the PB’s role in crafting laws and measures to protect the environment.
Based on reports, tipsters who hurled the allegations on the illegal logging operation have raised concern on their safety after receiving death threats.
Meanwhile, the PB’s committee on natural resources and environmental protection chaired by Board Member Agapito Avenido was tasked to lead the probe.
For his part, acting provincial administrator John Boiser earlier said that the provincial government is still awaiting reports from the Bohol Environment and Management Office which will confirm the veracity of the allegations. (R)
