CAMP VICENTE LIM, Calamba City – One of the six escapees from the Laguna provincial jail has voluntarily surrendered to the police chief of Sta. Maria town in Laguna on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Sta. Maria investigator, Senior Police Officer 1 Joey Cabarles, Verjust Dalde Dizon, 36, who is facing charges of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, have gone into hiding in Bocaue, Bulacan for three days since after the October 29 jailbreak.
He surrendered to Superintendent Raniel M. Balones, Sta Maria police chief, at around 2 p.m.
Cabarles said Dizon surrendered to clear his name for fear of being accused of killing one of the Laguna prison guards.
Prior to Dizon’s surrender, an emissary of the prisoner’s in-law personally sent the surrender feeler to Balones.
Initial investigation disclosed that on Sunday morning, he was waiting to see his son who he was expecting to pay him a visit.
Before he could see his son, Dizon said there was a commotion and shooting inside the jail.
He then said he took the opportunity to run towards the open gate of the Laguna prison facility. He decided to seek refuge in Barangay Turo in Bocaue, Bulacan.
Cabarles said Dizon was not armed and identified as the first inmate to have exited from the jail facility based on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
Police manhunt operations are still ongoing against the three at-large fugitives including Boholano Rio Mahilom, who has a case of illegal possession of firearms; Rayman Raymundo for murder; and Teddy Bucal for illegal drugs.
Two of the escapees were recaptured in Imus City, Cavite on Tuesday. (PNA)
