The police has pinpointed two suspects in the fatal shooting of a female progressive group leader in Ubay town two weeks ago.

According to Ubay police chief Senior Insp. Desiree Lavisto, charges will be filed next week against the alleged killers of Erlinda “Lady” Gunayan.

Gunayan has been identified as a leader of the “Kasama Ka” movement which is linked to militant group Hugpong sa Maguumang Bol-anon (HUMABOL).

However, Lavisto has yet to disclose the suspects’ identities as police are still waiting for criminal complaints to officially be filed against them.

Police are now waiting for the eyewitness to confirm the suspects’ identities so they may file the case before a court, he said.

According to Lavisto, they are now eyeing land dispute as primary motive behind the killing of Gunayan.

Gunayan, due to said property conflicts, has had rifts with various personalities who may have been behind her murder.

Lavisto noted that Gunayan was facing cases filed against her due to land disputes.

“Dili hired killer ang mipusil niya kay kung hired killer pa gi-ulo na ni siya, tan aw nato bag-ohan ang mipusil ug posibli nga iya rapod ning kalalis,” said Lavisto.

Gunayan was shot dead by men who rode in tandem while she was walking towards her home in Barangay Casate, Ubay on November 17.
