The Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HFHP) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 formally turned over 115 houses to victims displaced by the 7.2-magnitude quake in 2013.
According to Mimi Alidon of the provincial government’s Shelter Program Support Unit, the beneficiaries have been living in the houses since 2016 but formal turnover rites were only conducted on Thursday.
The beneficiaries are among those left homeless by the devastating 2013 tremor.
Fr. Alfonso Javier of HFHP amd Sheba Dabon of DSWD Visayas led the formal turnover.
Local officials including Cortes Mayor Iven Lim, barangay captains of Cortes and Isabelito Tongco, chief of the governor’s external affairs office, also attended the event.
According to Lim, there are still more houses being constructed by the HFHP for other Boholanos displaced by the earthquake.
The International Organization for Migration, meanwhile, is also set to start building 190 houses also for quake victims, said Lim. (RT)
