A retired officer of the United States Armed Forces was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman in Baclayon town at dawn on Sunday.
Senior Insp, Raymond Halasan, chief of the Baclayon Police Station, identified the victim as Lonie Simon Weig, a 63-year-old American national living in Barangay Laya of said town.
Based on initial police investigation, the victim was jogging at around 5 a.m. along a barangay road in Purok 3, Laya when he was shot twice.
Weig reportedly sustained one gunshot wound in his head and another in his body.
This led to his instantaneous death, Halasan said.
Police have yet to identify the caliber of the pistol used to shoot Weig dead.
There were no spent bullet shells found in the crime scene, he added.
According to Halasan, they are still facing a blank wall as to the identity of the suspect and the motive behind the murder.
Police investigators have launched a deep probe into the case, he said. (Allen Doydora)
