A total of 308 police officers of the Bohol Provincial Police Office’s (BPPO) Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) were subjected to surprise drug testing on Friday last week as part of the police’s efforts to rid its ranks of drug-using cops.
BPPO director Senior Supt. Angeles Geñorga Jr. led the drug testing which was conducted by personnel of the Bohol Provincial Crime Laboratory at the Multipurpose Hall inside Camp Dagohoy in Tagbilaran City.
“Gusto natin na masigurado na walang kasamahan natin sa BPPO na drug pusher at para makita natin yan, nag-surprise drug test tayo,” Geñorga said.
According Geñorga, the BPPO-DEU police officers were immediately subjected to the test as they arrived at the venue without prior notice on the drug testing.
The province’s highest ranking policeman said that police officers who test positive for illegal drug use will be subjected to a confirmatory test.
“May confirmatory test po yan, pagnag-positive yan, ilalagay muna natin sa ‘floating’ para sa confirmatory test,” he added.
The surprise testing was also conducted in accordance with the Philippine National Police’s “internal cleansing” campaign amid the relaunch of “Oplan Tokhang.”
The government’s controversial anti-drug campaign was re-implemented nationwide on January 29 after it was terminated in October last year. (RT)
