A 69-year-old male farmer, while carrying his two-year-old grandson, was hacked and killed with a scythe by his relative in Sierra Bullones on Wednesday morning.
According to Sierra Bullones police chief SPO4 Delio Elumbaring, victim Graciano Queita, a resident of Barangay Bugsoc of said town, was watching television when the suspect suddenly attacked him.
Suspect Edward Queita, a distant relative of the victim, suddenly barged into the house and hacked Graciano in the hand causing him to drop the infant on the floor, said Elumbaring.
Edward then continued to hack Graciano until he hit the victim’s throat.
Graciano sustained a large hack wound in his neck which caused his instantaneous death.
Police officers immediately responded to the incident and were able to catch Edward who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
According to Elumbaring, Graciano’s neighbors told authorities that the victim and the suspect had a longstanding rift due to a land dispute.
This may have been the reason behind the fatal hacking, Elumbaring said.
Meanwhile, Edward who is now in police custody is set to be charged with murder on Thursday. (A. Doydora)
