Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell Yap on Thursday night aroused the public’s curiosity by posting on his Facebook page a photo of a letter addressed to him and printed on paper with a Starbucks letterhead.
This led hundreds of Yap’s Facebook followers to speculate through the post’s comment section that the world-famous coffee chain will soon reach the province’s shores.
While Yap left much for the public’s imagination with a vague and short explanation of his post, Tagbilaran City administrator Edi Borja confirmed that Starbucks has expressed intent to build its first store in the city.
“O, tinuod na,” said Borja. “Daghan mga multinational company like Starbucks ang interesado na mopahimutang sa ilang negosyo diri.”
According to Borja, authorities earlier surveyed a possible location for the province’s first Starbucks store.
However, he did not elaborate on other details including the start of the store’s construction.
“It is an indication that the city of Tagbilaran under the leadership of Mayor Baba Yap ug ni Vice Mayor Toto Veloso is attracting investors, nakita nila how dynamic ang atong city and how vibrant our economy is,” said Borja.
More national and international brands have expressed interest in opening up businesses in the city, he added.
Mao na ba kaha ni? Ang hilig og ☕️ ang naka hibaw sa logo. 🙏🏿
