Of the 351 tourism-related establishments in Panglao, 82 were initially included in the first batch of “environmental violators” found by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
In an exclusive document reaching the Chronicle, it was learned that several beach resorts in the Alona area were included in the list of violators which were already issued with “Notice of Violation.”
This came as an off shot of the warning issued by DENR Sec, Roy Cimatu who was given orders by Pres. Duterte to close more than half of the total number of beach resorts in Boracay.
Earlier, NEDA Secretary Ernesto Pernia sounded off the alarm on the widespread environmental violations among beach resorts in Panglao which need the attention of the DENR secretary,
A text from the office of DENR Sec. Cimatu said, “our Regional Director, EMB has conferred with Gov. Chatto last week regarding this concern. Their action was to cancel all business permits of resorts in Bohol found non-compliant with environmental laws, effective next week.”
During a meeting convened by Gov. Edgar Chatto yesterday, the governor himself failed to pressure the EMB to release the list of environmental violators.
