A motorcyclist who was flagged down by police in Tagbilaran City for traffic violations ended up being arrested on a drug charge.
According to SPO1 Silvan Palacio of the Tagbilaran police, suspect Neovel Delegero, 35, of Barangay Tiptip in the city was caught in possession of two medium-sized sachets containing shabu.
Delegero was supposedly accosted for traffic violations but police grew suspicious when he alighted his motorcycle and ran away when asked for his driver’s license and his vehicle’s ownership documents.
“He disembarked from the motorcycle and ran towards the quarry area which made him suspicious enough on the part of the police officers,” said Palacio.
Delegero was able to run for about 50 meters but was chased down and eventually subdued by the police.
According to Palacio, police officers led by SPO2 Celso Orapa were posting drug-free stickers in Barangay Taloto when they spotted Delegero traveling on board his motorcycle.
The suspect was not wearing a helmet and was using his cellphone and also holding a lighted cigarette, he said.
Delegero is now detained at the Tagbilaran City Police Station after he was subjected to drug testing at the Provincial Crime Laboratory where the seized drugs were also submitted for analysis.
He will be charged for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
