A Boholana registered nurse who was supposed to graduate from medical school next month was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside her room at a boarding house in Barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City at past 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
Authorities identified the fatality as Amy “Heart” Therese Cabataña, 28, a native of Loay who was studying medicine at the Southwestern University – Matias H. Aznar Memorial College of Medicine.
SP03 Rommel Bancog, homicide investigator of the Cebu City Police Office, told the Cebu Daily News that probers are eyeing personal grudge as possible motive in the killing.
The victim was reportedly still wearing her uniform when she was stabbed to death.
Based on police investigation, other tenants at Cabataña’s boarding house heard a woman crying from inside her room prior to the discovery of her lifeless body.
In a statement, the Matias H. Aznar Memorial College of Medicine said that Cabataña was one of the college’s top students.
“In the event of an untimely loss as one family, yesterday, MHAM lost a top student who, in one month’s time, will be marching along the processional isle and be conferred as DR. AMY THERESE G. CABATAÑA,” the college stated in its Facebook page.
“To you, our dearest MHAM maven-to-be, no one deserves to die the way you did but God will bring into judgment both the righteous and the wicked,” it added.
Those close to the victim and other netizens also called for justice through social media with the hashtags: #JusticeForAmy #BatchIllustreMinusOne. (rt)
