A total of 236 newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan officials in Bohol failed to attend the mandatory training on their duties and responsibilities organized by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) shortly after the polls in May.
According to DILG-Bohol, SK officials were no-shows due to various reasons including having illnesses during the one-day event held for a number of batches on May 17 to 25.
The training is supposedly a requirement before the youth leaders officially start carrying out their duties.
However, no date has been set yet for the special training for the absentee officials.
Republic Act 10742 or the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015 mandates the DILG, National Youth Commission and several other institutions to “jointly design and implement the SK mandatory and continuing training programs.”
Through the training, SK officials will be given lectures on decentralization and local governance, how to conduct meetings, craft resolutions, do planning and budgeting, and on the code of conduct and ethical standards of a public official. (R. Tutas)
