A P-200,000 reward has been given to one of three informants who relayed to police details on the whereabouts of Emegdio Aparece, Jr., one of Bohol’s most wanted persons and suspect in the killing of Buenavista Mayor Ronald “Sampol” Tirol.
Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) director Sr. Supt. Angeles Geñorga personally handed over the reward to one of the unnamed tipsters on Monday at Camp Dagohoy in Tagbilaran City.
The reward will be divided among the three informants who helped in locating Aparece.
Aparece, tagged as suspect in at least 15 killings, was gunned down by police in Barangay Concepcion, Danao last week after allegedly resisting arrest during a police operation which was set in motion with the help of the informants.
For his part, chief of the Provincial Mobile Force Company Supt. Gaylord Tamayo who led the arresting team against Aparece, said that the pieces of information given by the tipsters were crucial in finally cornering the elusive suspect who has been hiding for “eight years.”
“I think malaking bagay yung reward. Kasi yung mga tao, pag may reward yan, syempre magka-interest yan gaya noong sa Inabanga incident na nagbigay si Presidente Duterte ng 1 million reward kaya madami ang nagbigay ng information,” Tamayo said.
Aparece, a native of Putingbato, Buenavista, has eluded arrest in four operations led by Tamayo. In some of the encounters, Aparece shot his way out of danger, eventually escaping from arresting law enforcers.
He was pinpointed as suspect in the killing of a daycare teacher, a police officer, a militiaman, two barangay officials and several farmers, among others.
Heightened operations against Aparece were re-launched after he was tagged as suspect in the killing Tirol on May 27 inside a cockpit arena in Buenavista.
Police meanwhile are still looking for Elmer “Eti” Melencion, another suspect in the mayor’s slay.
A P200,000 bounty was also placed on his head. (AD, RT)
