A 62-year-old man died after he was accidentally hit and run over by a delivery truck while he was riding his bicycle along the national road in Barangay Mariveles, Dauis on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The fatality identified as Edwardo Baclayon of Barangay Totolan, Dauis was still rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
According to PO1 Benjie Anyana of the Dauis Police Station, the victim was riding his bike to buy metal wire when he was rammed from behind by a truck carrying liquid petroleum gas.
Baclayon reportedly made a sudden turn when he was nearing the hardware store causing the truck which was trailing him to hit him from behind.
The truck driver, identified as Jimmy Albarando, 36, told police that due to his speed and Baclayon’s abrupt turn he was not able to change direction in time to avoid the victim.
Albarando surrendered to responding police officers and was detained pending the filing of a case against him for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide. (A. Dodyora)
