A Tagbilaran City councilor said that the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) will soon pass an ordinance that will regulate the use of karaoke machines particularly at nighttime.
City legislators started to tackle the proposed legislation after complaints mounted against the use of sing-along and other sound amplifying equipment at night and even during the wee hours.
According to Councilor Ondoy Borja, they are already crafting the measure that will regulate or ban the use of the machine.
He intends to file the proposal before the city SP for the first reading next week.
The measure will seek to ban the use of karaoke machines from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., said Borja.
However, the city legislator noted that this is not yet final as further survey will still be conducted on the ideal time and duration for the ban.
Karaoke machines and other sound amplifying equipment have long been pinpointed by some residents as nuisance especially at nighttime when most are already resting.
Late-night videoke is also being tackled at the national level through a measure proposed by Quezon 4th District Rep. Angelina Tan who also seeks to limit the use of the machine. (ad)
