A man and his 86-year-old uncle stabbed each other to death following a heated argument which erupted amid a drinking session during the observance of their relative’s 40th day of death in Candijay.
According to Candijay Police Station commander Chief Insp. Joseph Berondo, both men were still rushed to the Candijay Community Hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
Berdondo identified the fatalities as Ricardo Gumanit, 86, and Joseph Gumanit, 36, both residents of Barangay Tubod, Candijay.
Joseph and Ricardo were intoxicated when they engaged in a knife fight in Tubod at past 3 a.m. on Monday, said Berondo.
However, investigators found out that both men were in a longstanding feud prior to the heated argument which led to the fatal melee.
It was Ricardo who allegedly hacked Joseph first with a knife hitting the latter in the head.
Joseph remained conscious after the attack and retaliated by also hacking Ricardo with a knife.
Berondo said that both men then engaged in a knife fight which resulted in multiple stab and hack wounds in both men.
Cardo Utal, a barangay tanod (village watchman), who was in the vicinity tried to break up the fight but he ended up also getting hit in the head with a knife.
Utal was also taken to a hospital but police said that he remained conscious and in stable condition while being treated for his injury. (A. Doydora)
