A man wanted for allegedly raping his 11-year-old granddaughter in 2016 was arrested by police at the Tagbilaran City port on Sunday after over a year in hiding.
Suspect Alejandro Alia Davao III, 59, who has been charged with three counts of rape of his under-aged granddaughter, was immediately taken into police custody after disembarking a vessel from Cagayan de Oro City.
Davao, a resident of Calceta Street in Barangay Cogon, Tagbilaran went into hiding and stayed in Sarangani province after an arrest warrant was issued against him in February of 2017, said PO3 Jason Amonsot of the Tagbilaran City police warrant section.
According to Amonsot, police lured Davao to return to Tagbilaran City by pretending to be the suspect’s former work superior and offering him a job as a security guard at the new international airport in Panglao.
“Gikan na’g Cagayan…Mi-uli rana ky ako gi-ilad, gapa as-if ko nga head guard niya sauna. Unya ako siya patrabuon sa airport sa Panglao, mao na mikagat sa amo textkanay ug tawag mao mi mi-uli,” said Amonsot.
Meanwhile, another case is set to be filed against Davao for allegedly raping his first victim’s older sister.
Amonsot however did not divulge further information on the additional charge as it is yet to be lodged before the court.
According to Amonsot, the 11-year-old victim was placed under the custody of Department of Social Welfare and Development for assistance. (W. Maestrado)
