A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a fisherman who broke into a neighborhood convenience store where she works in Loay on Monday night.
Victim Maria (not her real name), a working student, was asleep inside the store when the suspect forcibly entered the establishment at the Loay Fish Port by breaking the door’s lock, said PO1 Mcmurphy Galapin.
Maria knew the suspect and identified him to authorities as Philip “Phil-am” Otida, 38, a fisherman for the Elzon 6 Fish Carrier, Galapin added.
Otida who was a regular customer of the store remained at large as police continued to hunt him down.
Rape and robbery cases are set to be filed against Otida on Wednesday.
Otida allegedly stole P7,000 from the store owned by one Melodias Ratunil when he saw Maria sleeping on a folding bed.
Maria told authorities that Otida used his hand and a blanket to cover her mouth as he raped her.
According to Galapin, Maria was later able to scream waking up Ratunil who was asleep inside her bedroom beside the store.
This scared off Otida who ran away with only his underwear on.
Otida left his slippers, short pants, t-shirt, slippers and cellphone, all of which will be used as evidence against the suspect, said Galapin.
Maria was subjected to a medical examination on Tuesday and results were still awaited.
Meanwhile, Otida who is a native of Camotes, Cebu, was not at his place of employment when police searched for him. (A. Doydora)
