A 23-year-old woman was arrested by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents for allegedly conspiring with her brother, a seaman, in attempting to extort money from his girlfriend by threatening to post her nude photos online.
Leah Idago, a cashier for AP Cargo in Tagbilaran City and a native of Carmen town, was arrested in an entrapment outside her office along J.A. Clarin Street in Barangay Poblacion III at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
According NBI Bohol chief Atty. Renan Oliva, the operation was set up after the victim, a 27-year-old teacher, reported to their office that her seaman boyfriend, Raul Idago, 27, threatened to post her nude photos on Facebook if she would not pay P22,000 to his sister.
The amount was in addition to P15,000 already paid by the victim to Raul through Palawan Pawnshop Pera Padala, Oliva said.
During the entrapment, the victim handed over to Leah a cash bundle made up of P1,000 and fake P1000 bills.
Operatives stationed inside a vehicle some five meters away from the victim then immediately surrounded Leah and arrested her after the transaction was made.
Meanwhile, Raul remained at large.
Authorities were set to file robbery extortion charges in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act against him and his sister. (R. Tutas)
