A man who allegedly raped a 10-year-old daughter of his live-in partner in Clarin town was arrested by police on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect, identified as Pedro Lupas, 42, of Hilongos, Leyte, was apprehended while he was gathering coconuts in Barangay Mataub by virtue of an arrest warrant issued for statutory rape and acts of lasciviousness.

According to PO1 Renon Añora of the Clarin Police Station, Lupas raped the victim, his live-in partner’s daughter with her late husband, at his residence in Barangay Nahawan on June 9, 2018.

Lupas was alone with the victim inside the house during the incident.

Añora said that Lupas had attempted to rape the girl in April but she was able to get away from the suspect and run.

Lupas, who was personally identified by the victim as her attacker to authorities, remained detained at the Clarin lock-up jail.

Hon. Leo Moises Lison, Presiding Judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 3 had earlier set the bail amount at P180,000 for Lupas’ temporary liberty in relation to the acts of lasciviousness case.

However, statutory rape which was filed later against Lupas is a nonbailable offense.

Lupas was also charged with illegal gambling for alleged involvement in unauthorized “swertres.” (A. Doydora)
