A nine-year-old boy who was walking to school was killed after he was accidentally hit by a delivery truck in Clarin on Thursday.
The boy was still rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The truck’s driver, identified as Sergio Mier, 52, of Barangay Poblacion, Sagbyan meanwhile was taken into police custody pending the decision of the boy’s parents to either file charges or agree to settlement terms, said PO2 Genesis Piezas of the Clarin Police Station.
According to Piezas, the accident happened at around 5 p.m. along a national road in Barangay Comaang.
Mier told authorities that the boy suddenly crossed the road while he was driving towards the central district of Clarin on board a Mitsubishi Canter.
Piezas said that Mier likely did not notice the boy as the latter suddenly crossed the road towards his school. (ad)
