The new P10 tricycle fare in Tagbilaran City is now in effect after the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SPO) on Tuesday approved the increase which was suggested by lawmakers anew in October amid the rise of fuel prices nationwide.
According to Councilor Philip Besas, chair of the SP’s committee on public utility, the council approved the P2 fare hike through a provisional ordinance during its previous regular session.
Tricycle drivers can now collect the amount as the new minimum fare, Besas said.
The provisional ordinance also includes the increase of additional payment per kilometer from P1 to P2.
Meanwhile, the SP also approved the increase of penalty for tricycle drivers who will be caught overcharging their passengers from P500 to P1,500.
Besas had earlier noted that the measure could help curb excessive fare demanded by some tricycle drivers from their passengers.
“Mi-saka na gasolina, presyo pud sa mga pamaliton mi-saka sad,” Besas said in an earlier interview.
“Mao pod nay usa sa among nakit-an nga rason na sila mo-violate, mo-overcharge tungod tingali ana, kay ang pletehan ubos ra kaayo,” he added. (ad)
