The Sangguniang Panlungsod in Tagbilaran City appealed to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to allocate passenger boarding bridges to Bohol-bound flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2.
Councilor Agustinus Gonzaga issued the request to MIAA General Manager Eddie V. Monreal through a resolution he sponsored citing the need to address the inconvenience for Bohol-bound passengers who have to take a shuttle from the terminal to the aircraft.
“It is observed that flights for Manila to Tagbilaran City (now Panglao) at the Centennial Airport (NAIA 2) are usually assigned to a boarding gate (Gate 12) that required passengers to be shuttled some considerable distance by bus from the gate to the aircraft,” said Gonzaga through the resolution.
“This arrangement caused inconvenience to passengers, especially travelling PWDs and senior citizens, and disappointment to tourists expecting an efficient airport experience,” he added.
The request was aired by the lawmaker amid the expected increase in tourist influx to the province after the opening of the Bohol Panglao International Airport in the resort island of Panglao.
Vice Mayor Toto Veloso who noted that he personally experienced the “inconvenience” of the situation at the Metro Manila airport also pushed for the request. (A. Doydora)
