A pregnant woman and her husband were rescued by municipal emergency responders in Carmen after the couple was swept away by flood waters brought by heavy rains on Thursday.
According to Carmen Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) assistant officer Lindy Rivera, Myrna and Junior Lapas of Villa Arcayo, Carmen were headed towards the town’s central area when they were flooded in a rice field.
They tried to cross the flood waters but were swept away at past 4 p.m.
Rivera said that the couple was able to hold on to a tree after they were washed away for several meters.
Residents in the area saw the couple and immediately alerted the authorities, Rivera added.
MDRRMO operatives using their equipment were able to take Myrna and Junior to safety.
Both were uninjured including Myrna who was five months pregnant, said Rivera,
Meanwhile, the Carmen MDRRMO remained on alert amid the continued presence of a low pressure area in the region. (A. Doydora)
