A former barangay captain in Carmen died after he was accidentally run over by a motorcycle which was allegedly driven by a drunk driver.
The fatality, Sergio Legaspi, 62, a former village chief of Barangay Nueva Fuerza in Carmen, was hit by a motorcycle while walking at the side of the road in the town’s centeral district at 6 p.m. Thursday, said PO2 Alberto Cabahug of the Carmen Police Station.
Legaspi was rushed to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City but succumbed to his injuries a few minutes after reaching the facility.
He sustained severe injuries to the head which caused his death.
According to Cabahug, the victim was walking home after attending fiesta celebrations in a nearby village right before the accident.
Meanwhile, the motorcycle’s driver, Randy Lusica 33, of Barangay Buenasuerte, Pilar, was arrested by police at the scene of the accident.
Lusica who was wearing a helmet suffered minor injuries.
He is now detained at the Carmen Police Station lock-up jail and set to be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
Cabahug said that a case for violating the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act may also be filed against Lusica. (A. Doydora)
