A 10-year-old girl drowned in a river in Dagohoy town on Sunday while swimming with friends.
According to PO2 Gilrey Calvario of the Dagohoy Police Station, the girl, a grade 5 student and a resident of Poblacion, Dagohoy, drowned at past 2 p.m. but her body was recovered at 7 p.m.
The incident was reported to authorities at 5 p.m. causing the search operation to proceed until night time, said Calvario.
A rescue team recovered her body underwater as it was caught by a large piece of wood.

Based on information gathered by police, the victim was carried by current towards a deeper segment of the river.
One of her friends was able to grab her hand but was unable to hold on due to the current. (AD)
