Ilagan, Isabela – Anfernee ” Penny” Lopena, a native of Tagbilaran City, demonstrated his sprinting prowess as he won the Gold medal in the 100-meter dash in the recently concluded 2019 Ayala Philippine Athletics Championships in Ilagan City Sports Complex.
Lopena, the fastest man in the field clocked in 10.6 seconds to break the most recent national record of 10.25 seconds.
It was a better performance for Lopena compared to last year where he registered 10.91 seconds for the Gold medal. His performance now was only 0.01 slower than the Bronze medal standard at 2017 Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian Games.
Lopena extended his winning streak to another sterling performance when he led the 4 x 100 relay mixed gender to win another Gold.
The next international event for the fastest man from Bohol is the SEAG on August 31 to December 11 in Clark.
Penny Lopena is the son of Genesis “Pakay” Lopena, a former local basketball star turned international mariner.
