A 31-year-old man was killed after the motorcycle he was driving slammed straight into an incoming pickup truck along a national road in Barangay Poblacion Norte, Carmen on Monday night.
The fatality, identified as Benjamin Gallogo, a resident of Montevideo, Carmen, was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival, said Corporal Niesel Pescante of the Carmen Police Station.
Based on the police’s initial probe, Gallogo swerved to the opposite lane causing the head-on collision between his motorcycle and a Kia Bongo driven by one Edilberto Galo, 31, of San Isidro town.
Gallogo was thrown from his motorcycle and into the truck’s windshield causing it to break, Pescante said.
Galo suffered cuts on his face from the broken windshield while his two passengers were uninjured.
Follow-up police investigation indicated that Gallogo was under the influence of alcohol and was seen attending fiesta celebrations at a nearby village prior to the accident.
Gallogo was not wearing a helmet during the accident, Pescante added. (A. Doydora)
