Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) director Colonel Julius Cesar Gornez has been abruptly relieved of his post after serving as Bohol’s highest ranking police official for less than four months.

The relief of Gornez was confirmed by Lt. Colonel Maria Aurora Rayos, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 7, on Thursday.

Gornez was replaced by Colonel Emma Macapagal Libunao at an acting capacity, making her the first female BPPO director.

Libunao was the chief of Camp Crame’s Family, Juvenile, Gender and Development Division (FJGADD).

Gornez’s relief was effective starting April 30, 2019, based on a directive from the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

The order, dated April 30, was signed by Major General Lyndon Cubos, director of the PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management.

According to Rayos, they were not informed on the reason for the sudden removal of Gornez from his post.

“Wala mi kabalo sa [rason] kay order mana sa Crame,” said Rayos.

The PNP directive did not indicate where Gornez was transferred while Rayos also had no knowledge on the police official’s new assignment.

Gornez took over the BPPO’s helm in mid-January from Colonel Angeles Geñorga, Jr.

Geñorga’s replacement also came abruptly as he was unable to complete his regular two-year term as Bohol’s top cop.

Unverified reports indicated that Geñorga’s transfer was set in motion due to politics. (R. Tutas)
