(UPDATED) A 36-year-old man was critically injured following a gun attack by a lone motorcycle-riding gunman near his house in Barangay Tiptip, Tagbilaran City on Monday night.
The victim, Rey Boquil, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds including one in his cheek, was placed under the intensive care unit of the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City on Tuesday morning.
Boquil was still able to speak to investigators early on Tuesday but his health suddenly deteriorated after.
Based on Boquil’s statement, he knew the gunman who had earlier asked him to assassinate someone.
Boquil believed that he instead became the target after he refused to carry out the hit.
According to Staff Sergeant Rofel Mendoza of the Tagbilaran City Police Station, Boquil was buying cigarettes at a variety store on Monday night when he was repeatedly shot.
The suspect while riding a motorcycle drove pass Boquil who was with a woman who served as conduit between both men.
The gunman then alighted from the vehicle and shot Boquil multiple times before fleeing with the woman on board his motorcycle.
Authorities said that the suspect is a noted drug personality but refused to publicly identify him as investigations continued. (W. Maestrado)
