A police officer was killed while his passenger was in critical condition after their motorcycle slammed into the railings of a national highway in Alicia town at past 8 p.m. on Friday.
The fatality, identified as Patrolman Jun Manuel Pilvera, 26, of Barangay Estaka, Pilar was rushed to a hospital in Candijay but was declared dead on arrival.
Pilvera was a member of the 701st Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7.
According to Staff Sgt. Eugene Omac of the Alicia Police Station, Pilvera, together with one Ronie Pelpinosas, 29, rammed the road railings at a sharp curve in Sitio Dagohoy in Barangay Lahacienda.
Investigators believed that Pilvera, on board his Honda CRF 250, was travelling at high speed causing him to lose control of the vehicle at the curve.
Meanwhile, Pelpinosas remained in critical condition and was fighting for his life at a hospital in Ubay.
According to Omac, both victims were wearing helmets during the accident. (AD)
