A total of 40 jobseekers were hired on the spot in a Tagbilaran City government-sponsored job fair during the celebration of the country’s Independence Day on Wednesday.
According to Tagbilaran Public Employment Service Office, 38 individuals were hired by local employers while two others earned posts overseas during the event held at the City Hall Atrium.
The job fair was attended by Tagbilaran City Mayor Baba Yap who delivered the event’s opening address.
Meanwhile, around 100 applicants were considered as “near-hires” or those considered accepted but still lacked requirements.
Borja estimated that around 600 individuals attended the single-day event.
He said that the activity was conducted as part of the city’s celebration of its charter day on July 1.
The job fair was supported by 20 local companies, six overseas employers and various government agencies including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment, and the Social Security System, among others.
The DTI was in charge of giving out information on the event and the participating companies during the event. (AD)
