A fisherman was killed after he was repeatedly shot by his sister’s live-in partner, a barangay tanod (village watchman), in Loon on Tuesday night.
The fatality, Ricardo Gablines, 48, of Barangay Ubujan in Loon and the suspect, Pricillano Berbedor, 66, a barangay tanod of the village, were both drunk during the incident, said Major Jacinto Mandal, chief of the Loon Police Station.
According to Mandal, Gablines and Berbedor figured in a heated argument prior to the shooting incident. Both were in separate drinking sessions near Gablines’ home in Barangay Ubujan.
Gablines punched Berbedor who in turn pulled out a .357 revolver and shot the victim four times, said Mandal.
Gablines sustained multiple gunshot wounds including one in his chest which caused his death.
He was still rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Mandal said that Berbedor immediately fled the crime scene but was arrested by police an hour after the incident following a hot pursuit operation.
Berbedor was found hiding at the residence of his relative in Barangay Ubujan.
Mandal said that Berbedor remained detained at the Loon Police Station pending the filing of a murder charge against him. (A. Doydora)
