A wife of a detainee at the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) who is facing drug charges was allegedly caught trying to sneak in shabu worth P340,000 into the detention facility in Tagbilaran City on Tuesday afternoon.
Jail authorities seized from one Raysa Panis, 41, a soap vendor in Barangay Cogon in Inabanga one large pack of shabu concealed in a soap carton which was found by jail searcher JO2 Asterio Quino, Jr.
Panis however denied having knowledge that the carton was filled with contraband as she noted that a male friend has been asking her to take the soaps to her husband during her regular visits.
Her husband was identified as Joseph Panis, 41, who has been charged with violations against Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
“Sangko sa langit ang akong pagmahay nga gibinuangan ko,” said Panis.
She however refused to identify the man who handed over to her the soap carton filled with drugs which had an estimated weight of 50 grams.
According to Quiño, they have long been monitoring Panis over suspicions on smuggling contraband.
Panis has also been included in the BDJ’s and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s drug watchlists.
She is now undr the custody of the Tagbilaran City Police Station pending the filing of charges against her. (Rey Tutas)
