The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) – Bohol, the association of all of the province’s town mayors, will elect on Friday morning its president and other officers for the next three years.
Outgoing LMP president Clarin Vice Mayor Allen Ray Piezas said that the elections will be held at the Bohol Tropics Resort in Tagbilaran City at 9 a.m.
So far, only Dauis Mayor Miriam Sumaylo and former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and San Miguel Mayor Virgilio Mendez have expressed intent to run for the LMP’s top post.
Sumaylo is on her last term while Mendez is on his first term as local chief executive.
According to Piezas, only 46 out of the 47 municipal mayors will be able to cast their votes and run for a seat in the league as suspended Panglao Mayor Leonila Montero is barred from joining the electoral process.
Acting Panglao mayor Brian Velasco may attend the event but he will not be allowed to vote.
“Dili siya ka botar. Sa LMP national guidelines, even ang vice mayor, dili pud pwede mo butar. He can contribute to the quorum pero dili siya ka vote ang acting mayor,” Piezas said.
Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell Yap meanwhile is also not eligible to join the proceedings as he is a member of the League of Cities of the Philippines, not the LMP. (RT)
