A couple from Oslob, Cebu who has been considered missing since Thursday last week and has been adrift at sea for over four days was rescued by fishermen in waters between Bohol and Cebu on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities said that the couple’s motorized banca capsized possibly due to strong winds.
According to Staff Sergeant Noel Monton of the Alburquerque Police Station, Samuel Caldino, 52, and wife Olympia, 45, who were seen hanging on to their overturned banca were chanced upon by fishermen Reynaldo Tagyamon, Erwin Pahayahay and Elmar Mananquil at past 4 p.m.
“Hangin-hangin man tong panahuna…nalunod. Mao ilang gi-abayan ang [banca], nakob ra man unya dinha sila nag-abay,” he said.
Monton said that the Caldinos’ family on Thursday last week reported to police in Oslob that the couple has not returned home after they set sail earlier on the same day.
After they were rescued, the Caldinos were taken to a hospital in Tagbilaran City for treatment.
Monton said that the couple who has been at sea for over four days suffered from dehydration.
Their family is expected to fetch them at the hospital and take them back to Oslob.
“Amo ng na-contact ang [pamilya] unya paingon na diri,” said Monton. (A. Doydora)
