A 20-year-old Sangguniang Kabataan chairman of a brangay in Bilar was arrested by police for alleged sale of illegal drugs at a forested area in the municipality.
According to Executive Mst. Sgt. Cerlito Curayag of the Bilar Police Station, Jonel Sopot, an elected barangay chairman of Barangay Rizal, was spotted selling illegal drugs in a nearby village prompting officers to set up a buy-bust operation against him on Thursday night.
He was immediately collared after he allegedly sold shabu to an undercover agent near the Bohol Island State University-Bilar Campus.
Curayag said that Sopot was placed under surveillance for two weeks after he was pinpointed as the source of shabu of a man who was arrested also for a drug charge in Carmen earlier this month.
Sopot reportedly dropped out of school and sold drugs to students.
He is now detained at the Bilar Police Station lock-up jail pending the filing of illegal drug charges against him. (wm)
