A 50-year-old man was killed after he was pinned down inside a cement mixer which crashed along a provincial road in Dimiao on Thursday afternoon.
The fatality, identified as Junie Gantalao was sitting at the truck’s passenger seat when the vehicle, whose brakes had earlier started to malfunction, slammed into the railings of Korimo Bridge in Barangay Datag, said Staff Sgt. Adrian Cagalitan of the Dimiao Police Station.
According to Cagalitan, the truck’s driver Rogen Soliano, 40, who suffered only minor injuries noticed that the brakes were already malfunctioning even prior to the accident.
He told authorities he noticed that the truck no longer had brakes in Barangay Cambayawon after travelling for several kilometers from Barangay Canhayopon but still decided to continue driving.
Soliano drove for five kilometers more before the truck slammed into the bridge railings, severely damaging the passenger side of the vehicle.
Cagalitan said that Gantalao was trapped inside the vehicle for 30 minutes before he was rushed to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City.
He however was declared dead on the arrival. He was believed to have died due to blood loss. (A.Doydora)
