A seven-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool at a resort in Getafe on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The fatality, a resident of Barangay Taytay in Getafe, was still rushed to the Francisco Dagohoy Municipal Hospital in Inabanga but was declared dead on arrival, said Senior Master Sgt. Faith Duaves of the Getafe Police Station.
According to Duaves, the girl was swimming with her sister and cousins, all minors, when she drowned at the Corte Paradise Resort in Barangay Corte Baud.
The children were supposedly supervised by two of their adult cousins while there was no life guard on duty at the resort.
The victim was believed to have reached the deeper part of the pool.
“Wa tingali nila mabantayi. Pagtan-aw nila naglutaw na ang bata,” said Duaves.
The family of the victim has yet to coordinate with the police on whether or not they will file a complaint against the resort’s owner.
Authorities noted that the victim was living with her relatives in Getafe as her mother who is a widow works in Manila.
Duaves meanwhile reminded the public to never leave children unsupervised while swimming in pools or in the sea.
“Kinihalanglan kitang mga tagtungod hilanglan jud mo bantay sa atong mga bata labina og way life guard,” she said. (A. Doydora)
