A drug buy-bust operation led to a brief gunfight in Jagna which resulted in the injury of a man tagged as a high-value target (HVT) in the police’s drug watch list and an undercover cop on Friday afternoon.
Suspect Jeffrey Lansang, 32, who allegedly yielded shabu worth P408,000 and Corporal Adel Tuano both sustained gunshot wounds but remained in stable condition, said Staff Sgt. Angelito Baugbog of the Jagna Police Station.
According to Baugbog, Lansang shot Tuano with a .45 caliber pistol after the latter identified himself as police officer following their drug transaction.
“Gitud siya sa suspect then gupusil. Mao to ang iyang [Tusan] backup maoy hing pusil sa suspect,” said Baugbog.
Tuano of the second district Drug Enforcement Unit sustained a gunshot wound in his left chest while Lansang was grazed in the chin and neck by the bullet fired by Corporal Alexander Ursos of the third district DEU.
Baugbog said that prior to the sting operation, police placed Lansang under surveillance for over a month and found out that he was dealing shabu in various towns both in the eastern and western sides of Bohol.
“Sumala sa taho kaning tawhana nag-operate ni sa este ug weste, Talibon, Tubigon,” he added.
The operation against Lansang, a native of Balilihan town, was jointly conducted by the Jagna police and DEU units from the second and third districts as he allegedly operated in both districts.
Lansang was initially considered as a newly identified drug personality but was later elevated to an HVT due to the amount of suspect shabu seized from him which weighed 60 grams.
After being treated at the Teodoro B. Galagar District Hospital in Jagna, Lansang was detained at the Jagna Police Station lock-up jail pending the filing of charges against him.
Tuano, meanwhile, was taken to the Lim Community Hospital also in Jagna where he was treated for his injury. (Allen Doydora)
