A man died while a municipal councilor sustained multiple injuries following a motorcycle accident in Dagohoy town on Monday night.
Senior Staff Sgt. Jelry Calvario of the Dagohoy Police Station said that Dagohoy Councilor Alan Sasan, 44, who was driving his motorcycle accidentally rammed the victim, identified as Roger Malabote, along a national highway in Barangay Malitbog at past 7 p.m.
According to Calvario, Malabote who was walking on the same lane which Sasan traversed suddenly crossed the road, catching the latter off guard.
Calvario noted that the road had no lampposts and was covered by the branches and leaves of roadside trees.
“Matod pa sa nakaresponde ani, mitabok kuno og kalit ang biktima…Awahi ra nabantayan sa kagawad wa na maka likay,’ Calvario said.
Reports gathered by police also indicated that the victim was under the influence of alcohol during the accident.
“Matud sa storya na nakainom kuno pod ang [biktima],” he added.
Malabote fell to the ground and bumped his head on the road while Sasan who was not wearing a helmet crashed and was thrown some several meters into a banana tree following the impact.
Both men were rushed to the Cong. Simeon G. Toribio Memorial Hospital in Carmen. However, Malabote succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning.
Sasan meanwhile was transferred to a private hospital in Tagbilaran City where he was already in stable condition.
According to Calvario, the victim’s family will not be filing charges against Sasan.
They instead asked for financial assistance from the incumbent councilor for the victim’s burial. (A. Doydora)
