A former spokesperson of the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) was shot dead by still unidentified assailants in Cebu City on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as Lieutenant Colonel Joie Yape, who was last assigned in Calbayog City, Samar.
A report from Superbalita Cebu said that Yape was shot by motorcycle-riding men who rode in tandem while he was walking along Sitio Molave in Barangay Kamputhaw at past 6 p.m.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival, reports said.
Yape was assigned in Bohol in 2014 as the BPPO’s spokesperson before he was deployed to Cebu where he held multiple posts including the directorship of the Cebu Provincial Intelligence Branch.
He was notably the local police force’s mouthpiece who handled public and press relations during nationally covered incidents in Bohol including the fatal shooting of dyRD media man Maurito Lim, the grenade blast at the Inabanga market which left two people dead and at least 12 injured and the shootout between police and six men believed have been behind the killing of a police chief in Ubay.
