Police who were only out to call the attention of a tricycle driver for wearing shorts while on duty ended up arresting his passenger for drug possession.
In a report, police said that operatives of the Tagbilaran City Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit who were conducting patrols flagged down a tricycle driver in Barangay Booy on Sunday afternoon.
The officers were only supposed to warn the driver for wearing shorts but were surprised when his passenger, Michael Lopez, 26, suddenly jumped off from the tricycle.
Lopez allegedly threw away a bag before attempting to flee.
Police however were able to immediately subdue him. They then examined the contents of the bag and allegedly found four packets of shabu.
The authorities collared Lopez who admitted that the seized drugs were his “leftovers” from the night before.
Lopez is now under the custody of the Tagbilaran City Police Station and is set to be charged with possession of illegal drugs.
An ordinance earlier passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod prohibits tricycle drivers from wearing shorts and slippers while on duty. (WM)
