The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Bohol is currently conducting an inquiry into five alleged cases of human rights violations and extrajudicial killings in the province.

According to Alonso Bayocot, officer-in-charge of the CHR’s Bohol field office, most cases of purported extrajudicial killings and human rights abuses in the province are drug-related.

Of the five cases being probed, four have no complainants as the CHR is putting these under a motu proprio fact-finding investigation or an inquiry prompted by the institution’s own initiative.

Bayocot said that the sole complainant approached the CHR to request for a probe on a raid conducted by police at the residence of a suspect in Tagbilaran City without a search warrant.

The CHR official did not disclose the identities of the complainant and victim for security purposes.

The group has previously appealed to authorities to not take extrajudicial shortcuts in going after drug personalities and deny suspects of due process. (Allen Doydora)
