Jagna councilor Anthony Aniscal expressed disappointment over the approval of an ordinance on the municipality’s application of a P45-million loan which was earmarked for the construction of a dumpsite in Barangay Tubod Mar of the said town.
The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) approved the loan on third and final reading during the town council’s regular session, prompting Aniscal, who abstained during the voting, to vent his disapproval through his Facebook page.
Aniscal questioned the allotment of a large amount of the loan for the acquisition of a backhoe worth P8 million and garbage compactor worth P5 million.
He noted that the multi-million purchases are unnecessary as the local government unit of Jagna has a functioning garbage compactor and a dump truck which can be used to haul garbage.
“It would be better to rent a backhoe when we would be needing it, which would cost about P1500 to P2000 per hour,†Aniscal said.
However, the ordinance’s author Kag. Digoy Lloren, said that the equipment are needed, defending the loan’s approval which was supported by majority of the SB.
Jagna SB member Jojo Pagar, for his part, recommended that a review should be undertaken by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan regarding a case involving Jagna Mayor Bicbic  Abrenilla and those who opposed  the project.
The said case is in the sala of Regional Trial Court Judge Dionisio Calibo, as it was noted that Abrenilla last year signed a Memorandum of Agreement stipulating that he will no longer build a dumpsite in the area.
Aniscal and Pagar, the only two members of the town council’s opposition, were also the only SB members who questioned the said project. (Allen Doydora)
