The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) committee on education is pushing education officials to impose a total ban on the chasing, capture and fighting of Pokemon with the use of smartphones in all public school campuses by the Department of Education (DepEd) – Bohol and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)

Desiderio Deligero, Chief of the Schools Governance and Operations Division of DepEd-Bohol told DYRD Balita welcomed the move of the SP and is now awaiting a copy of the anti-Pokemon resolution

The SP during its regular session on Friday, August 26, 2017 held at the Benigno Aquino, Jr.  Session Hall, New Capitol Complex, Tagbilaran City adopted a resolution filed by 3rd District Board Member Elpidio, Jala, chairperson of the committee on education urging the DepEd – Bohol and CHED to impose a “no gaming policy” in all public school premises.

Pokemon, short for pocket monsters and a Japanese created video game that pits fictional creatures called “Pokemon” with humans as trainers to capture the pokemon with the use of a poke ball and train them to wage battle against other pokemons.

Pokemon Go players use the GPS system of their smartphones to find “pokestops” where “pokeballs” can be found to catch pokemons and train them to fight in “pokegyms”

The rising popularity of the game has caused alarm among the SP Board Members after reports claimed that students were addicted to the game luring them into spots where their safety is at risk.

Deligero said that the SP resolution will be acted immediately even as he admitted that they have also received reports of the widespread popularity of the game among the students. (Chito M. Visarra and Rey Tutas)
