The Department of Education (DepEd) is calling on Bohol teachers and students to be vigilant as they move to improve security measures in school zones in the wake of the Davao City bombing.

Desiderio Deligero, chief of DepEd Bohol’s schools, governance and operations division, told DYRD Balita on Thursday that they are requesting for additional police visibility around schools.

He said that they have directed schools to tighten security by letting guards thoroughly check bags and IDs of students, teachers and visitors, particularly those not known by school authorities.

Deligero also warned teachers and students to refrain from believing and spreading messages regarding unconfirmed threats which may cause unnecessary panic.

However, he encouraged the public to report to authorities information on suspicious activities and personalities.

Public schools which have no security guards have also been advised to hire someone who would help in securing the school’s premises.

For her part, DepEd-Bohol superintendent Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos, will issue a memorandum to school officials regarding the additional safety measures. (Rey Tutas)
