The number of crimes recorded in Tagbilaran City last August plummeted by 30% compared to the previous month of July’s tally.

This was the pronouncement of Supt. Nicomedes Olaivar, chief of the Tagbilaran City Police Office (TCPO), during the City Peace and Order Council on Wednesday.

Olaivar said that 106 crime incidents were recorded in the month of August, 46 cases less than the previous month’s record of 152.

He noted however that among the top three most common crimes of theft, physical injury and robbery recorded by the TCPO in August, only theft incidence decreased.

Theft cases in August dropped 22 percent as 42 incidents were tallied in the said month while 54 were recorded in July.

Incidence of physical injury increased by 66 percent as 29 cases were recorded in August while only 10 were noted in July.

Olaivar also said that there were 10 cases of robbery in August and only three in the previous month.

According to the TCPO chief, three villages in Tagbilaran City recorded high incidences of index crimes in August including Brgy. Cogon which recorded 13; Poblacion, 3; and Mansasa, 5.

In the previous month, Brgy. Cogon still tallied the highest number of index crimes at 18 followed by the villages of Poblacion 2, Dao and Mansasa which recorded 13, 9 and 5 index crimes, respectively.

Of the 152 crimes in July, 90 were solved while 60 of the 106 in August were solved by the police.

Olaivar attributed the decrease in crime rate to the continued intensified drive against illegal narcotics in the province.

He is optimistic that crime in the city would maintain its downward trend in the following months as the national police force vowed that there would be no let up in its anti-drug campaign. (Allen Doydora)
