The Provincial Board on Friday extended its condolences to the families of Anos Fonacier, deemed father of Bohol tourism, and former vice governor Stephen Bernido who both recently passed away.
Members of the Sangguninag Panlalawigan (SP) during their regular session passed a resolution expressing their sympathy as the two prominent figures in the province died this week.
Fonacier passed away on Tuesday after battling throat and prostate cancers and other ailments.
Fonacier, who was 90, established the Bohol Beach Club in 1984, prior to Bohol’s rise as one of the top tourist destinations in the country.
He was an Ilocos native but became an adopted son of Bohol as he helped plan out the province’s tourism industry.
Governor Edgar Chatto on Tuesday said that Boholanos should be thankful for Fonacier’s contributions as he guided officials in crafting policies and programs that made Bohol tourism what it is today.
The same honor was extended by the SP to Bernido who passed away at 7.15 p.m. on Thursday.
Bernido was a vice governor during the term of former governor Rolando Butalid in the 1980s.
He was the son of former governor Esteban Bernido. (Rey Tutas)
